Can EMF Radiation Shorten Your Dog’s Life?
Can EMF Radiation Shorten Your Dog’s Life?
Electromagnetic Field (EMF) surrounds us outside and inside our homes. EMF is radiation emitted from everyday appliances including WIFI Routers, Cell phones, light bulbs, microwaves, and many other common devices. EMF radiation is always strongest near the source and diminishes as you move away.
The advancement in technology has led to a massive increase in the use of ‘hi tech’ devices such as Cell Phones and Wireless devices. However, as the use of this life changing technology increases so does the discussion around the potential health effects.
The effects of EMF on biological tissue remains the most controversial. Most scientists agree there needs to be more research to determine the true health dangers associated with our increased use of EMF emitting technology.
Iron, which is stored in the brain and used for healthy blood is highly affected by EMF radiation. Nerves, blood vessels, skin and other organs are also affected by EMF.
Research suggests a possible link between high levels of EMF radiations and carcinogens including leukemia in children.
EMF Radiation In Your Home
So, you know EMF radiation is harmful to you and your family and you know you should be more aware of how you can reduce your exposure to it.
But, what about your pets?
It’s your responsibility to protect them as well.
Here’s a few common sources of EMF Radiation.
Home wiring
Everyday home wiring has been identified as a common source of EMF radiation. Some ‘old fashioned’ wiring methods have highlighted excessive EMF radiation sources, often known as
Dirty Electricity. You can easily check the levels of EMF emitting from your home wiring by using an
EMF Detector or by arranging a visit from a licensed electrician.
Never touch electric wires, even if you think the current is turned off. If you need to disconnect electrical circuits to determine the source of EMF, call a licensed electrician.
Computers
Most people think EMF’s are emitted from the front of the screen. In fact, the radiation emits from all side of the computer.
You should not only be concerned by sitting in front of the monitor but sitting anywhere near a computer has the potential to affect your health.
You need to be aware the same risks apply to our furry friends.
Wi-Fi
Your, very convenient, wireless access is producing high levels of EMF.
This is probably the most common source of harmful EMF radiation in your home.
There is some good news, however.
There are several measures you can take to reduce the effects of EMF on you family and your pets.
Cover your modem with a mesh
EMF Protective cover.
Turn off your modem at night.
Convert your modem from
wireless to wired.
Electric clocks
Electric clocks are a source of very high magnetic field radiation which can reach up to three feet away. If you are using a bedside clock, you are probably sleeping in an EMF equivalent to that of a power line. To reduce the harmful effects of EMF you should place all clocks and other electrical devices, like telephones and answering machines, at least 6 feet from your bed.
Fluorescent lights
The installation of fluorescent lights has increased for many years. They produce a lot more EMFs than incandescent bulbs. There has been a recent trend back towards incandescent bulbs. Where possible, replace your fluorescent lights with good ‘old fashioned’ incandescent bulbs. Your dog will love you for it!
Telephones & answering machines
We all associate Cell Phones with EMF radiation but you might not be aware of the link between Cordless Telephones and EMF. The base of the Cordless phone is a MAJOR source of exposure and should never be kept in your bedroom or your dog’s sleeping area.
It’s important to note that while the handset is a source of exposure while you’re talking on the phone, the base transmits constantly, whether the phone is in use or not. Answering machines, particularly the ones with adapter plugs, or mini transformers, radiate high levels of EMF.
What You Can Do?
Firstly, be aware that EMF radiation easily travels through walls.
Whenever possible, place appliances, computers, phones and other sources of EMFs on the outside walls of your home.
Try to limit the number of electric devices in areas of your home where you and your family spend the most time.
Ensure all electrical appliances are at least 6 feet away from your bed and your dog’s sleeping area.
Eliminate dimmers and 3-way switches from your home.
What is your family’s risk for exposure to EMFs?
One way to find out is to rent or buy an EMF Meter. This is a gauge for measuring EMF radiation and will help determine your exposure level and its source.
If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, engage a licensed electrician to examine your home.
I hope this helps to answer the question, Can EMF Radiation Shorten Your Dog’s Life?
Remember, the most important thing is to be aware of the risks and the sources.
It is, after all, the health of your family and pets which is the highest priority.
